Minimal invasive endoscopic neurosurgery is done by using small flexible, lightened tubes to visualize the part of the brain, skull base or spinal cord through small opening. Endoscopic surgery is considered as the minimal invasive neurosurgery.
Endoscopic neurosurgery requires small incision on the scalp. Endoscopic surgery has less recovery time, less pain and shorter duration of stay in hospital.
Minimally invasive surgical techniques, and we use them throughout the practice, including:
Intracranial surgery: In intracranial surgery skull is opened through a very small opening following that endoscope is introduced in the brain and tiny instruments are put through the same opening for the purpose of performing endoscopic tumour biopsy, colloid cyst resection, and endoscopic cyst fenestration, as wellas to treat hydrocephalus.
Endoscopic third ventriculostomy is one the common procedure which is done for Aqueductal stenosis and in some cases of obstructive hydrocephalous
Endonasal neurosurgery: endonasal (through the nose) is usually performed for pituitary tumours and chordomas. By changing the direction one can see the skull base and top of the spine and surgery at that location can also be performed.
Spinal surgery: certain spine surgeries can be done endoscopically like endoscopic discoidectomy and video assisted thoracic surgery
